Manage my ID Austria account

Have you ever wished there was an
easier way to prove who you are online?
Now there is! It's called ID Austria.

What is ID Austria?

You can now use your ID Austria account to prove who you are anywhere in Austria. It is a modern, secure way of identifying yourself digitally, allowing you to prove who you are online so you can access digital services and conduct business over the Internet. In future, companies will also be able to use ID Austria in a variety of different ways.

ID Austria is currently in its pilot phase, and is being extensively tested to make sure it works as well as it possibly can when it officially goes live. Fundamentally, ID Austria represents a development of the existing mobile phone signature system and the Bürgerkarte (Citizens Card).

Secure. Digital. Personal.

This service is provided by the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) and the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI)

Transferring to ID Austria from the mobile phone signature system

If you use a mobile phone signature in the Digitales Amt (Digital Office) app, you have had the option of switching to ID Austria since summer 2022.

If your mobile phone signature has been officially registered by the relevant authority, you can upgrade it to ID Austria, and get full access to all the features of the new system straight away. If your mobile phone signature has not been officially registered, you can switch to the basic version of ID Austria. To access the full range of features in ID Austria – including the ability to present official ID documents electronically – you will need to register your account with the relevant authorities.

Why switch to ID Austria?

  • It provides highly secure access to government and commercial services.
  • It gives you a quick, easy way to sign digital documents.
  • It's free.
  • It meets the highest security and data protection standards.
  • It forms the foundation of the digital ID platform and many other applications.
  • From 2023 onwards, you will be able to use it anywhere in the EU.
