Housing
Housing allowance
The Vienna housing subsidy supports residents whose housing costs are disproportionately high relative to their income. The application is free and can be submitted online or by mail. You must have your main residence in Vienna and meet certain income thresholds.
How it works — step by step
- Check your eligibility using the free Housing Subsidy Checker tool on the City of Vienna website.
- Gather all required documents for all household members (official photo ID, personal documents, proof of income, rental contract).
- Submit your application online through the City of Vienna portal, or download the PDF form and send or deliver it in person to the Housing Subsidy Office (19th district, Heiligenstädter Straße 31, Staircase 3, 2nd floor).
- Upload all required documents as scanned PDFs (not photos) or attach them to your submission.
- If needed, book an online appointment for personal consultation (only available by reservation).
